How often is this page updated?

Each series is updated as its own authority publishes. Mawani releases container and tonnage figures monthly, usually in the second week of the following month, through the Saudi Press Agency. GACA and GASTAT publish air, rail, land-border and warehousing figures annually, with GACA also issuing recurring air-traffic reports. A dated revision log at the foot of this page records every change.

Why are some months missing from the monthly tables?

Because the authority has not published them, or has published only a headline total without the component split. An empty cell reads n/p — not published — and is never back-derived from a percentage change. A month with no bar on the chart is a month with no release, not a month with no cargo.

What does TEU mean, and does throughput include transhipment?

TEU is a twenty-foot equivalent unit: the volume of one standard 20-foot container, with a 40-foot box counting as two. Throughput counts every container lifted over the quay — imports, exports, empties and transhipment boxes moving between vessels. Transhipment is broken out separately wherever Mawani publishes it, because it is the measure of hub status rather than of domestic trade.

Do the port figures cover every Saudi port?

The monthly series covers ports supervised by the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani). King Abdullah Port, which is privately developed and operated, sits outside that perimeter, so Kingdom-wide totals from other releases will read higher than the Mawani monthly line.

Why do two official figures for the same month sometimes disagree?

Because authorities restate. A month first released as a preliminary figure can be revised when it becomes the comparison base in the following year’s release. This desk prints the figure as first released and records the restatement in the revision log rather than silently overwriting it — a data series that quietly changes behind you is not one you can cite.

Can I reuse these numbers?

Yes. The underlying figures are official Saudi government statistics and belong to the authority named under each table — cite that authority first.
